Community Impact and Accounting Coordinator

United Way of Mahaska County is currently seeking a Community Impact and Accounting Coordinator.

 

The Community Impact and Accounting Coordinator is a flexible hourly position, with United Way of Mahaska County, a non-profit organization. The United Way of Mahaska County empowers our communities by promoting education, encouraging healthy living, and strengthening financial stability. This position helps strategically unite, tackle, and evaluate Mahaska County to meet the needs of its community members. Training will be provided for this position.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Recruit, engage, & manage volunteers in Mahaska County and build on those relationships.
  • Provide training necessary for volunteers to contribute to the success of programs and projects.
  • Utilize a volunteer website to recruit volunteers & assist community agencies with inputting all volunteer opportunities.
  • Maintain website and social media posts.
  • Direct the planning of events such as Volunteer Appreciation, and Day of Caring, including negotiations for space, contracts, food, equipment, and signage. Write necessary submissions for social media and traditional media (TV, newspaper, radio).
  • Update 211 on all platforms
  • Assist with the preparation of United Way’s Community Investment nights, including scheduling and ordering of food.
  • Assist in developing new events and fundraisers, as well as existing fundraisers.
  • Input information into our donor database to ensure thank you notes, tax dedication letters, and all mailings are sent out timely.
  • Responsible for all mailings, including newsletter, and annual campaign event.
  • Order office supplies.
  • Maintains positive, collaborative, relationships with United Way employees, community partners, partnered agencies, and volunteers along with being confidential with sensitive information.
  • Occasional weekend and evening hours will be required.
  • Maintain accounting records.
  • Perform accounts receivable and accounts payable functions.
  • Perform monthly bank reconciliations.
  • Prepare monthly financial statements.
  • Consult with Board Treasurer.
  • Prepare monthly bills, payroll, and payroll taxes.
  • Prepare for yearly audit through communication with the auditor and provide them with all required documentation. Once the audit is concluded prepare Form 990.
  • Additional duties as assigned by the Executive Director.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Required:

  • A Bachelor’s degree is preferred in Business or Human Services or equivalent work experience.
  • The ability to work well independently, take initiative on several projects concurrently, and have good follow-through.
  • The ability to work in a small office environment with a diverse workforce, volunteers, partnered agencies, and walk-in traffic.
  • Technical skills with basic office equipment and software, and the ability to create spreadsheets, documents, and posters.

 

Preferred:

  • A Bachelor’s degree preferred in business, accounting, or human services, or equivalent work experience.
  • Good working knowledge of the Mahaska County area.
  • Bookkeeping/ Accounting experience
